Paul Roland Krihak

Glens Falls * Paul Roland Krihak, age 90, passed away peacefully at home on Father's Day morning, June 15, 2014.    Paul was born July 1, 1923, in Brooklyn to Jack and Lenore(Kluge) Krihak.


Paul's family moved to Schenectady and he graduated from Nott Terrace High School, where he was an excellent student and a sure handed receiver on the football team.  He attended Michigan State for a year and was drafted in the U.S. Army. Paul was a platoon sergent responsible for constructing bridges over rivers in Germany during WWII.  After returning from the war, Paul graduated from Syrcuse University with a degree in forestry.


Paul had a long and illustrious career in the wholesale lumber industry.  He served as CEO of Holbrook Lumber Co., retiring at 82. Paul loved being a lumberman and received several awards for his contributions to the industry.


His fondness for swimming led him to lifeguard summers at Hearthstone on Lake George. The lake became the epicenter of his family life; he met his wife, Eleanor, there and they raised three children. Most summer weekends, you could see the old Fay & Bowen boat (African Queen) heading for Long Island filled with family and friends.  Paul was also and avid golfer and a 60-year member of the Glens Falls Country Club, where he served on the Greens Committee.


Paul is survived by his wife, Eleanor, and his three children, daughters, Linda (Don ) Boden and Paula Christopoulos (companion Doug Beaty) and his son, Peter Krihak; four grandchildren, Meredith Nicholson (Marshall), Ryan Boden ( Danielle), Max Christopoulos (Amanda) and Grace Kirhak; and five great-grandchildren, Ben, Sam, Lucas, Olivia and Harry.


A memorial service will be held from noon to 1 p.m. June 27, 2014 at Singleton, Sullivan, Potter Funeral Home, 407 Bay Road, Queensbury, NY 12804.  A celebration of life reception will follow from 1:30 to 3:30 p.pm. at Glens Falls Country CLub.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be sent in Paul's memory to Alzheimer's Association Northeastern New York, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 205, Albany, NY 12205; or High Peaks Hospice, 79 Glenwood Ave., 2nd Floor, Queensbury, NY 12804.
